When we build your custom-designed shed, it starts with a solid foundation – the concrete base. It's emblematic of our 'built strong, built right' ethos and can handle almost anything you throw at it. However, that doesn't make it immune to getting stained or dirty as time goes on!
Sometimes, these blemishes can be a little more than some mud traipsed in from the farm – so how do you deal with the more difficult marks in your shed?
Coffee and drinks
This might not seem like the most common concrete stain to deal with, but remember we create a huge range of commercial sheds and home offices for clients, and what's a 9 to 5 job without a few coffee spills?
These ones are fairly easy to remove though. Soapy water and then a rinse should do the trick, but if any stains linger then you might have to use a poultice, but dipped in a solution with some glycerol and water for extra effect. If you end up using this, a little extra cleaning afterwards might be necessary to get rid of the remainder of the poultice.
General dirt and grime
This'll be common if you're working with a barn, or perhaps a garage, where dirt and muck is likely to be spread throughout on a regular basis. Waterblasting will be a simple solution for surface grime, but there will be times when you have to use a detergent solution, or even perhaps a little bit of hydrochloric acid.
Corrosive chemicals like this can be harmful to surfaces though – check with a professional before using them!
Oil and petrol
If you're storing vehicles in your custom-designed shed, there's always the chance of petrol or oil spills on your concrete base. Tiny ones can be tackled with detergent and a mechanical brush if addressed early, but they can end up a little more serious and embedded.
If this is the case, you might need to use a degreaser. You can pick these up at most hardware stores, and with a bit of hard scrubbing your petrol stains should be as good as gone.
Of course, these are only a few of the cleaning tasks you'll encounter. Some shed uses, such as stables, require different approaches entirely. Don't forget to customise your potential construction in the Shed Boss App, and get in touch with your local franchise if you have any questions!
