As the 2016 Academy Awards grow ever-closer, the stars come out to play and everyone places their bets on who's going to take home the statues. Will Leonardo DiCaprio get his due for fighting a bear in The Revenant? Will housing crisis blockbuster The Big Short come through in the directorial awards?
While it isn't the most glamorous of awards, production design plays a huge role in creating the atmosphere of a film. And looking at the nominees for the 2016 awards, there are plenty of settings that might have benefited from a custom-designed shed or two. Or three. Some of these settings are quite big!
Mad Max: Fury Road
Barren deserts, the occasional swamp, giant rocks in the middle of nowhere – there's no mistaking the fact that Mad Max's setting is Australian. In the latest instalment of what's become one of our national cinematic monoliths, the dry, dusty setting is as much of a character as the people themselves.
But we think that ShedBoss could have helped out the cast just a little bit with a custom-designed shed here or there. Perhaps some awnings at Immortan Joe's Citadel, or even an industrial shed to help with water storage. We haven't made a shed for post-apocalyptic conditions before, but considering some of the cyclones that our buildings have withstood, we think we've got a fighting chance of making something great.
Of course, dealing with a film on the scale of Mad Max, we think any sheds we make for this setting would be a little over 10 square metres, the point at which council approval is required in many regional Queensland areas. But don't worry, Max – we can handle all the paperwork for your custom-designed shed.

At the very least, everyone will need somewhere to store all of those gigantic cars.
In this hit film, Matt Damon gets stranded on Mars for a very, very long time. Now, we don't have a franchise set up that far away, but if we did we could surely help. A custom-designed shed to generate solar power, maintain a cool temperature with ventilation and insulation, and even with appropriate windows and doors for sunlight would be necessary – especially with the crop growing.

While Matt Damon's character did a good job, shed-building is often best left to the professionals. That being said, the average ground temperature on Mars is -63 degrees Celsius. Our insulation is great, but we're not sure if it is quite that effective.
If you aren't familiar with this movie then we won't spoil it for anyone, but the crux of it is that Leonardo DiCaprio fights his way through the American wilderness – at length. Another movie where the wilderness itself plays an important role, there are many key scenes here where Leo's character could have benefited from the use of a custom-designed shed.
A custom-built garage with a remote-controlled roller door could be great for security (and keeping out creatures of the wild), while insulation and a stable concrete foundation can resist the wind and cold found through the forest setting. Our Morinda bracket joints might even be able to deal with the larger wild creatures that Leo interacts with.

While you're unlikely to end up in the same situation as the stars of any of these films, it's always important to remember the versatility that comes with ShedBoss products. Elements like insulation don't just keep you warm, they help regulate temperature all year round, while customisable dimensions ensure you get a shed that suits exactly what you want.
It might be a desert abode, forest protection or even a more permanent residential dwelling on Mars – or simply a man-cave out back. Whatever you need, get in touch with us to start designing your own shed.
